JULY 2002Volume 4 Number 3

Bibliostat CollectThe Connecticut State Library will begin to use web technology to collect the data and information from the Public Library Annual Report & Application for State Aid Grant. Bibliostat Collect™, a product of Informata, Inc., is used by over a dozen State Library Agencies to assist in the state survey administration process. The interface is interactive, friendly, intuitive, and will respond to the user's actions. The data can be customized, verified, and easily and quickly submitted. Collect™ will allow Connecticut's Public Libraries to submit data electronically, thereby expediting the annual publication of the Statistical Profile, and facilitating the submission of library data to the National Center for Education Statistics. After July 15, the annual survey will be available from a web address to be provided. Support services include an 800 number, assistance with installation, use, submission questions and problems. The State Library will provide training, answer questions concerning definitions of terms and other issues regarding the survey itself. The system requires Internet Explorer version 4.0 or higher, and an Internet connection 56K or higher. Section 11-24b of the Connecticut General Statutes requires all public libraries in Connecticut to submit the Annual Survey and Application for State Aid by November 15th, 2002, to be eligible to receive financial assistance from the State Library. The new design, format, and pared down version of the survey will save completion time, and improve the timeliness of Connecticut's library data.
