Kendall Wiggin reading to children at the kick-off celebration for Fleet Cheers for Reading II
On September 24th, eight children from the Capitol Child Development Center joined Fleet employees, librarians and twenty Connecticut children's authors and illustrators at a celebration of "Fleet Cheers for Reading II" in Memorial Hall of the Museum of Connecticut History. Fleet Cheers for Reading is a community service program designed to instill children with a lifelong passion for reading. More than 10,000 books will be donated to children, their preschools and public libraries in cooperation of Scholastic Books. The Connecticut Library Association and the Center for the Book are partners with Fleet in the program. Jim Connolly, Fleet Chairman, and CEO, Clifford the Big Red Dog and Kendall Wiggin, State Librarian, joined in a reading of Clifford and the Big Parade to the children attending the celebration.
